Are the Braves for Real?

The new-looking Braves are seriously turning heads this year. Right now they are on pace to being the best team in the last 30 years. With the loss of Chipper Jones to retirement, the Braves have needed to find a new identity, and they have found that in rebranding themselves as youthful. With players such as Gattis, Simmons, Medlen, Heyward, Freeman, and both the Upton brothers, the Braves have a new identity as a powerful young team.

No one expected the Atlanta Braves to be 12-1 to start off the 2013 season, but to be honest it doesn’t look like they are going to be losing anytime soon. With such a powerful lineup, they are a threat to hit it out of the park with almost every bat. They also have a bullpen full of talented young pitchers. This team not only looks like it is going to be winning for a single year, it looks like they are going to have a dynasty. With three sweeps in a row against some very good teams, the Braves are definitely on a roll, but are they for real? Can they make this luck — if you want to call it that — keep going?

Justin Upton has been hitting the ball lights out and is leading the MLB in home runs… which probably won’t last. However a big portion of the ball club is not hitting well, and it’s in fact the pitching that is keeping the Braves at the top of the majors. The pitching staff is only going to get better as well. Johnny Venters and Beachy are set to come back near the all-star break, and they will greatly strengthen this already amazing staff.

The front office of the Braves has done an amazing job promoting these bright new stars and making them the focus of Atlanta sports. Since the Braves won the World Series in 1995 it has been a baseball town. Ted Turner made the Braves America’s team with TBS, and these new stars might just make the Braves a powerhouse again.  In order to get people interested in the Braves, the front office needs to give people a reason to go to the games again. The promise of young exciting players for many years to come has accomplished this.

Now the Braves are 12-1, and things are greatly looking up for them with the returning of injured players such as Freddy Freeman and Brian McCann. There is no reason that the Braves should not keep up their winning ways. Obviously they are not going to end the season with only one loss, however there is a strong possibility that they will end up with the best record in baseball. Atlanta is cautiously optimistic about this team, and I don’t blame them. Atlanta has been burned in the past, but things are looking up.  The re-branding as the youthful powerhouse has turned the Braves into something Atlanta has needed for a while, a winner. I urge you Atlanta, let go of your reservations and go full out for this team. They are part of the future of the winning city of Atlanta, and will bring us another world series.
