College GameDay Kickoff at Clemson

Georgia is off to its first game at Memorial Stadium this weekend! At 8:00 pm, No. 5 ranked Georgia will face Clemson who is ranked back at No. 8. Both teams are within the top 10 and have talented players and Heisman contenders, so this should be an exciting game. Quarterback Aaron Murray and Tajh Boyd are both Heisman contenders, and Georgia’s running back Todd Gurley may have a shot as well. Competition will be fierce as both teams are ranked within the top 10 and both have talented players this season. This is the first time the two teams meet since 2003 and will definitely be an epic game.

Clemson has the advantage of a high powered offense led by Tajh Boyd who played well and is now a likely candidate for the Heisman. Boyd had good prospects for the NFL 2013 draft but is returning to play his senior year. He has a great passing ability and also versatility, and this weekend the two senior quarterbacks will face off in this rivalry game. Another key player is wide receiver Sammy Watkins who faced injuries and drug charges in 2012 but is now back to play. However, their secondary may be lacking and the Tigers face the challenge of a number of injuries to Garry Peters, Darius Robinson, Mackensie Alexander, Jayron Kearse, and Adrian Baker. Despite all other factors, the Tigers do have a home field advantage at Death Valley, and they have been undefeated in opening home games since 1997.

The 7 new starters for Georgia may be new faces but should have no problem taking on the Tigers. Aaron Murray was named All SEC quarterback over Johnny Manziel and AJ McCarron and will hopefully beat Clemson and finish off his senior year with a bang. Murray has talented receivers this season with Malcolm Mitchell and Michael Bennett and also tight ends such as Arthur Lynch. Georgia also has Todd Gurley, one of the top running backs in the nation as well as Keith Marshall who has gained weight this season and may take on a bigger role in 2013.  Together, Gurley and Marshall, who are sometimes dubbed “Gurshall”, form a powerful duo that is unmatched in college football. Despite the fact that defense may be lacking with safety Josh Harvey-Clemons suspended for the opener and freshman Tray Matthews sidelined most of the preseason, the team is still ready for a great season.

Aaron Murray says the team has “hit reset” and the Bulldogs are prepared and ready to move on from the mistakes of 2012 and start by taking on Clemson in the highly anticipated game. This will definitely be one of the most thrilling games on Georgia’s schedule as they travel to Death Valley to take on the Tigers. Last season was characterized by inconsistency and Georgia may have lost last year against South Carolina in a similar situation but this season is a fresh start and hopefully the start to a road to the SEC Championship. Fans on both sides are excited for the game and ESPN and ABC have released a promo to get audiences pumped up for the College GameDay pregame show. In an attempt to compete with ESPN, Fox Sports 1 will be having their college football program show each Saturday which will be hosted by Erin Andrews. Due to an increased demand for college football, this is the first time that coverage will be extended to 3 hours and on August 31, 2013, the college football will be on from 9am-1pm giving fans a chance to enjoy Game Day all at once.  ESPN has sensed an increased demand for college football and the kickoff game will mark the start of extended 3 hour coverage shown by the Get up for 9 am promo. College GameDay will utilize social media by getting fans to share “How they #GetUp4GameDay” and will also be incorporating celebrity guests. The campaign tagline is “Get up. It’s Game Day” which was developed with the help of ad agency 72 and Sunny. Get ready to watch Georgia and Clemson go head to head as the start of yet another much anticipated college football season begins!
